PRO registration
PRO registration is how compositions enter the global performance system.
Performing Rights Organisations license public performance of compositions and pay through to writers and publishers. Without correct registration, performance revenue cannot be collected.
Overview
A PRO collects royalties when a composition is publicly performed — broadcast, streamed, played in venues — and pays them through to the writers and publishers on the registration. Each PRO operates per territory and reciprocates with others globally.
What it covers
Registering writers and publishers with the appropriate PRO. Submitting works with correct splits, ISWCs and credits. Aligning publisher chains so collected revenue flows to the right entity. Coordinating across PROs in each active territory.
Why it matters
01
Performance is one of the largest revenue streams for an active catalog.
02
Incorrect or missing splits stop royalties from being paid through.
03
PROs operate per territory — registration in one does not collect in others.
04
Most regional catalogs have either no PRO registration or partial, inaccurate registration.
